Catch #4 is Coming…

Just got word that Catch magazine (#4) will be available on the ‘Net in a week (beginning of March). From the cover shot above (thanks, Brian), it looks like Catch #4 should be “more of the same,” and that’s definitely a good thing. Looking forward to the fresh angling eye candy…

Trout Leader Re-Post

For those who attended the Bend seminar last week, here is the trout leader post/page that I referenced during the leader-building session. I figure that it is easier to just re-post it so you don’t have to dig around the blog. Put those three-turn Surgeon’s Knots to good use… – – – – – – [...]

Corkscrew Curve Vids

Back by popular demand (and those ladies in Bend, you know who you are). These are just two quick reference videos for the Corkscrew Curve and Inverse Corkscrew Curve. No text at the moment, but I’ll work on getting that back up here shortly… [ Javascript required to view QuickTime movie, please turn it on [...]

More on SLP (Straight Line Path) of the Rod Tip

I’ve been exchanging a few e-mails about various aspects of casting with Dr. Server Sadik, who is both an engineering prof at Montana State University and part of the original MSU/FCI motion-capture crew from back in 2004. Continuing the movie theme as of late, I wanted to point FF&W readers to a full collection of 500 frame-per-second fly-casting videos (hosted on Revver.com). Actually, if you’ve been reading this blog, you may have already seen these, but I figure that it never hurts to make them obvious. These videos are the result of [...]

Now Playing: A River Runs Through It

(Update: Crackle is allowing embedding, so you can watch “the movie” right here at FF&W. Enjoy!) I got an e-mail this morning (referencing this post at Moldy Chum) saying that Sony’s Crackle.com site was offering the full version of A River Runs Through It free for the watching (via their Flash player). And so it appears [...]

Straight Line Path (SLP) Visualized

Few things in fly casting are as misunderstood as the concept of the “straight line path” (known in casting-geek-speak as “SLP”) of the rod tip during the cast. Indeed, overly simplified or overly optimized diagrams of SLP have been wreaking havoc on casters’ imaginations for decades. While Possessing SLP is often thought of as a good thing for [...]
